Model # / Tip Opening:

Otto Link tenor sax mouthpieces have long been the benchmark for jazz tenor players. Over decades of production the design and sound have shifted, producing several distinct variants. The “New York” Otto Link tenor is a modern interpretation of the original New York “Tone Master” mouthpieces. The New York Hard Rubber Tenor Sax Mouthpiece delivers the darkest, most mellow tone among the lineup. As of 2026, all New York models have been refined through a partnership with Theo Wanne.

Who is Theo Wanne? Theo Wanne is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading mouthpiece makers. Known for innovative designs and precision manufacturing, he produces some of the highest-quality mouthpieces available. When JJ Babbitt (the company behind Otto Link) aimed to elevate the Otto Link tenor line, they partnered with Theo Wanne to bring enhanced consistency, precision, and tonal refinement to the Otto Link New York models.

4 Models — One Soul

The new Otto Link / Theo Wanne rubber tenor mouthpiece lineup preserves the classic Otto Link core sound while offering four distinct baffles, chambers, and facings to help you achieve your best tone.

Models:

  • New York — Inspired by the original New York “Tone Master”: lowest baffle and largest chamber for a dark, mellow sound.

  • Tone Edge — The iconic Otto Link core tone with enhanced modern response.

  • Florida — Features a higher rollover baffle for a brighter edge than the Super Tone Master.

  • LA — A new design with a smaller chamber and the highest baffle, delivering maximum projection and attack with a brighter character.

Why choose the New York? The Otto Link New York by Theo Wanne delivers the darkest, most mellow tone of the range. Combining the classic STM sound with improved response from the Theo Wanne partnership, it uses the lowest baffle and largest chamber—requiring more breath support but rewarding you with a rich, warm sound.

Features:

  • Produces a well-balanced tone with just enough brightness and warmth

  • Far-reaching projection without ever sounding too harsh or abrasive

  • Material: High-grade hard rubber for a rich, focused sound and minimal overtone harshness.

  • Facing: Tone Edge design offers smooth response, evenness across registers, and easy control of timbre.

  • Tip and Chamber: Optimized tip opening and large chamber produce a warm, rounded core while preserving clarity and presence.

  • Response: Fast articulation and even intonation from low chalumeau to altissimo.

  • Versatility: Equally suited for classical repertoire and contemporary performance contexts.

  • Build quality: Durable construction with precise craftsmanship for consistent playability and long life

  • Made in the USA from the finest dense ebonite

  • Manufacturing Method: CNC machined

  • Supplied with ligature and cap

Manufacturing Details:

Step one – Babbitt casting

These new models will retain their distinctive "Otto Link" sound. Mouthpieces begin production at Babbitt using their traditional casting techniques, original molds, and proprietary hard-rubber formulation. This process produces a raw casting that is then sent to Theo Wanne.

Step Two – Perfected by Theo Wanne

At Theo’s Washington facility, each Otto Link blank is finished on high-end CNC machines that carve every fine detail to exacting standards. The tip opening, side rails, baffle, reed window and table are all precisely machined. The new models feature a perfectly flat table instead of a concave one, improving reed seal and enabling better performance with a wider variety of reeds, including synthetic options.

Step Three – Finishing & Buffing at Babbitt

These machine-finished blanks are returned to Babbitt for final buffing and finishing. The Babbitt team, trained by Theo and his crew, follows a new, exacting standard to ensure the finish. The result preserves the traditional Otto Link appearance while delivering the precision of modern machining.

This combination delivers the Link mouthpiece tone with the unmatched reliability and consistency of Theo Wanne. Players won’t need to try dozens of mouthpieces to find “the right one” — every piece will play like that great mouthpiece straight out of the box.
